This vision was brought to life by Jeanette Forbes, CEO of PCL Group, who boldly diversified her business interests to open a wine and craft beer bar. As a frequent business traveller, Jeanette had experienced an abundance of stylish venues in cities like New York, London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. Recognising the need for a similar offering in Aberdeen, she set out to create something exceptional for the city’s West End—something that could rival, if not surpass, the options in other cities.

From the outset, Grape & Grain was a passion project that reflected Jeanette’s deep connection to her home city. Every design detail carries a personal touch: the ceiling’s curved ribs echo the waves of the North Sea; the mirrored walls and ceiling reflect the rivers Dee and Don. The bar itself, crafted from black Orinoco granite threaded with gold and silver, represents Aberdeen’s oil heritage, while the grey herringbone tiles pay homage to the city’s fishing roots and Jeanette’s own family ties to the industry. Rich kingfisher blues, soft greys, and vibrant greens throughout the interiors capture the essence of Scotland’s sea, granite, and countryside.
